Dangerous Waters- 10/15/2013 Pages 0-213

*Prompt*-Describe the main characters.

The first character that I would like to introduce is Patrick Waters. In the story he is a street-smart steward who, when meets the rich Mr.Widener becomes a sort of student. Patrick meets Mr.Widener when cleaning spit jars in the smoking room and they immediately get into a heated debate in wether books are really useful in a persons life. Soon after, Patrick agreed with Mr.Widener and they went on a quest to find out what Bacon (an old inventor/genious) enscripted into Wideners 1st edition book. Through the book Patrick changes from a man who only cared for material things, into a person who cared more for intellectual arts.

The second character that I am going to describe is James Waters, brother of Patrick. James is the largest minor character and is portraid as a self-sacrificeing, hard working man. Even as the Titanic is sinking he chooses to stay below deck in the boiler room to work like a mad-man. At first he seems very mean and unhappy because his brother snuck abord and got a job, however, when he knows his end was near he believes everything patrick says about Bacon's book and even helps him by using his authority to get Mr.Widener and Pat into the telegraph room.

The final character that I would like to describe is the man named Mr.Rockwell. He is a colossal man who happens to also want Bacons book and code, for it was rumored that what was in the code would bring the holder great knowledge and power. So using some of his on board reasources, he almost gets away with stealing the book. When he starts to run out of options, he finally contacts Patrick and offers him a large sum of money if he is fortunate enough to have it in his hands. Rockwell ends up failing. Although, they do decode the book before they have to jump ship to find the answer.
Do you know Bacon's code?
