"I Funny", Pages 0-258, Soiler alert. HEHEHE

*Prompt*- Do any of the characters feelings change through out the story? Explain why or why not.

This week I have been reading "I Funny" and I really like it. It is about this boy who is crippled from a young age but still likes to make jokes. He starts out as a loser but makes his way up to the top when he enters a competition for stand up commedians. Of course he wins and makes it to the next rounds of the competition, while also improving on his social life. The irony of it all is that he is a "stand up" comedian and yet he can't stand up. Right now he is talking to this weird foreign kid who says that the only reason he got to this point is from pity votes, not talent. But of course, because this boy has such low self esteem he believes him and he is very doubtful. His chances don't look good.

The main character's feelings change very rapidly. Jamie starts with very low self-esteem, gets bullied, and lives in a garage. Then his uncle tells him to join the competition afetr about half an hour of non-stop joking. He lets his uncle know he isn't doing it, then does it, and wins. He then is happy, his whole life was turning around. He wasn't bullied anymore, had more good friends, and just seemed much more happier. He even got some girl's attention. That became his downfall. They where sitting on a bench looking at the stars when she asks him something very personal, she asked him how he went to the bathroom. Of course, that was right before the competition and he ended up bashing her in a line of jokes. He was low yet again.

The other character that I would like to explaint the feelings of is "cool girl" (that's really her name in the book). She is a very popular girl who happens to have caught the attention of this jokester. She always had a very high self esteem until out of the blue she had to ask Jamie how he went to the bathroom if he couldn't stand up. Then when he bashed her in front of hundreds of people and won, well she was done with him. She wouldn't talk to Jamie for almost two weeks, then he got thrown over a 10 foot drop and broke his ribs. The bullies where after him again. He apologized and they made up as usual, and on that note i'm done.

  2. I think that it's pretty funny how he's a stand up comedian when he cannot physically stand. That really adds humor to the story! This story seems all over the place and it's like the typical teen story. There's a kid with some kind of disability, they get bullied, they do something fantastic, then they get popular, then they go back to the bottom of the social food chain. It seems like a well written story, though. Good blog post.

  3. Very descriptive blog entry Stan. Did Jamie also enter the competition? I think they should have a rivalry and have a joke off.

  6. I liked the way you said he was a stand up comedian yet he didn't stand. Also, I think the popular girl is going to have some secret family life and something goes wrong. Like her aunt dies or something. Then Jamie comforts her or something.

  7. The way that you explain or more like describe how Jamie's feelings change throughout the story so far is very appealing. Why does Jamie live in a garage? There are some point while reading this blog that I felt bad because Jamie has ups and downs, but when Jamie is down, it sounds awful. I feel like he just wants to fit in with a crowd for once. Why can't Jamie stand? Outstanding job with your blog this week!

  8. Stanley,
Great blog this week! I really enjoyed it! This sounds like a typical story about that kid who's the underdog and has serious issues but he wins whatever type of competition is in the story. #Typical but, it sounds very interesting! What kind of jokes did Jamie tell? You also did a great job describing how the characters feelings had changed throughout the book, and it seems like most characters feelings did change! Overall great blog this week and I look forward to reading more of your blogs in the future!
